I'm 21 on Friday!

Ive been going through those boxes that have 'useful' things in them, you know the ones that get moved every five years of so when you move house etc. In reality you never need anything in them so hence the clear out. Amongst the warranty cards for long forgotten video recorders and breville toasters I found a small hand written receipt from a shop in Doncaster for a Cannondale SM600 bike dated 30-10-1987. 21 years on Friday that I bought my first mountain bike! The memories came flooding back. It was a drizzly day but I remember proudly pushing that lime green wonder out of the narrow door and out onto the street for the first time. It was miles home and Iremember getting soaked and almost ran over several times on the 'Marr drag'. I can still remember the smell of dinner being cooked that evening and the sound of the Footie scores in the background as I meticulously cleaned all the dirt off those tubes- whilst a few of my mates cooed over it. It spent that first night propped up on the wall beside my bed.
Its amazing how such a tiny piece of paper can evoke such strong memories. I could not sleep last night as all the adventures of the last 21 years spiraled around my head.
On Friday night there will be a very shiney lime green Cannondale SM600 propped up against the wall in my bedroom. The wife will be thrilled no doubt.

:D 8) and to think you were gonna sell it

Alas that original bike was stolen in around 91-92. The SM that I have now is a replica that I bought last year. I do have a warm feeling towards it today I must admit. I think it will get an outing this week for old times sake!

............I bet JK Rowling is shitting her silk pants.

And that has the makings of a good 'Gentleman's Art Film', and a pretty niche one at that........... :P

Raking through boxes of old stuff is ace- I turned up a book I bought in 1984 for about three quid, which is now worth substantially more............I think I'll keep it though, to produce smugly next time I get grief for 'buying old tat'........ :P :P
