Hi all!
I´m selling this 2004 Independent Fabrication Crown Jewel ti. I bought it some months ago, and after riding it for a 2000km, noticed a very small crack, about 3mm long. You can see on the pics where is located. I contacted IF, and as the frame was 2nd handed, didn´t know what to do. After some mails, they decided to make a new one for me, which I actually ride. I asked them a few times if I should send the old one back, but as they didn´t want it, I´m selling it.

I mailed here in Spain to Alkon, who have a good reputation fixing all kind of frames, and told me it was an easily fixable crack.
It´s quite hard to be seen, specially on the pics, but there it is. During the time I rode it, the crack didn´t grow even 1mm.

It´s got 56.5cm of effective top tube C-C, and 46 the vertical one.
I´m looking for about 900€ posted, but opened to sensible offers, wouldn´t mind a change for a mtb frame also.

Thanks for looking!

shame about the crack

How was it repaired. Was the crack at the weld or in the tube?

What size is the frame?

answer

The crack is not been repaired. It´s on the weld, you can see it in one of the pics, I took of the paint, to be sure it was a little crack.
The size is a 56.5 C-C of top tube, but has slooping. I´m 1.71m tall, and was a bit big for me, but with a 9cm stem was ok.
Yes, a shame the crack :(

From my experience if the crack is just in the weld, you can usually just grind it out so it no longer acts as a stress raiser. If there is sufficient material left for a good joint then away you go, if not you may need to weld repair. This is generally for oil and gas pipes and stuff in CS not Ti but I would imagine the principle is the same.

Shame the frame is not a little smaller as I would have been tempted to have a go.
