i need a new motorbike helmet, help me choose!!

so if the bandit helmet is a copy of the simpson and in the ebay advert above they show the painted option from the same guy, is the bandit copy UK legal then? it says it is in the advert.

how can a copy be legal but the original not?

have sent an ebay question to them.

i don't want to buy a helmet that is not legal but that said the seller (a shop) is only in Poole about 1/2 hour away so i could nip down tomorrow

The Bandit helmets are a Simpson copy not to be confused!!

?

Bandit is the model name of one of Simpson's (oldest design) helmets.

i wondered that for a moment aswel but the ebay (uk) advert i listed above has no mention of the simpson name which leads me to believe that this helmet is UK legal . . . i hope.

'bandit' must be another brand, like wellgo making their version of the dmr pedals i suppose, almost the same thing but usually cheaper.

You are pretty much spot on,

I would check that you can paint the Carbon helmet though?

Not there oldest. I have no idea how long they have made helmets, probably a long long time.

I had a Type 32 Simpson helmet.
It's the only full face lid I have had, wore it till last year, when
I flogged it on ebay, got over a grand for it! It sold to a collector in Portugal
The type 32's field of vision is much smaller than a bandit's, it doesn't look it
in the pic, but if you look from the side you realise it's like looking through a small letterbox!

Retro helmets;-)

It was my understanding some of the early Simpson Bandits were also not for road use. The one I used (ahem) had a buckle on the side so it could be tethered in motorsport applications. It was also very, very heavy as the shell was thick. The visor, being tinted was most certainly not road legal, the visor was also noisy at it wasn't really supposed to be in open air-flow.

I've had an Arai since the late 90s, an Astro and a Quantum F, if memory serves. They fit very well and aren't too noisy. Beware the market your helmet is designed for, Arai for example tailor the shell shape for different parts of the world.

Salty, that is a truly sensational image. Are you wearing a Simpsons Groin Guard as well? Ouch!!!

I use a Simpson RX8, all of the above (big grins) have been done to death if your going as far as a custom job, for gods sake be original :?

All the Simpson helmets are illegal for road use in the UK.

Problems include poor visability, bad fit, high noise and the police will pull you

Nice looking helmets though.
