I may have a 'small' problem...Kona content inc. '96 Cindy

Well, buses and all that, but after always struggling to find 16" Kona's I've ended up with two more in two days...to go with the karma Kona Hahanna that I never shut up about...Kona-itus! :shock:

The Cidercone is the rarer cherry red one from late '96 and the Hahanna I only bought for the P2's, as I wanted some black with white decals forks for the karma Kona which currently has Subway forks! I was supposed to be passing the frame straight on again, but now...well... :facepalm:

The Cindy I want to go A-head with, and maybe single speed, not sure yet, but it needs some 'professional help' to get the BB out (ie - my mate Andy and his bit of scaffolding pole extension...)

I'm going with the idea that in 1997 when I first got back into MTBing, all I wanted was a Cinder Cone but couldn't afford one - if I'd bought a reduced price previous season's bike in '97, what would I have upgraded if money was no object? Well, it would have had sus forks, V brakes, and probably XT kit, maybe some Club Roost bars... So that's what I may go for as time and money allows...

In the meantime, there's the red Hahanna and a F700 'dale to try and get rid of...possibly...

Interestingly, the red Hahanna frame weighed on my highly accurate (ahem) fishing scales is over 5 1/2 lbs, the same weight as the karma Kona was when bare, which I feel confirms that the blue resprayed frame is a Hahanna of the same vintage too. (Still doesn't explain why you would go to the expense of an Argos respray though?)

Have put the 2nd Hahanna up for sale again on here but am kind of hoping it doesn't go, though how I can justify keeping it I don't really know... :facepalm:

Hahanna are weighty but don't notice it. They ride nicely.

I love that blue one, it rides better than anything I've ever had TBH. Though I occasionally toy with the idea of front sus...

All the revolving weights are low due to good wheels and cranks, if I can get similar kit for the Cindy it'll probably only be a pound or so lighter once built up anyway.

My mate Andy and I failed miserably to remove it, mostly because he had 'lent' the tool we normally use to a customer and it hadn't come back, so we didn't have anything we could bolt on. Worried we might bend the frame (as we had already bent the handle on the tool he did have) we decided to leave it and put it down to experience.

Step in Mark, 'Teflonshoey' from here, who I was meeting up with to flog a few bits to, he took it away and looked quietly confident...a week later and I'm meeting him again to pick it up, turns out heat had to be used and I was warned there was some bubbling to the paint, but, as pic shows, it's not too bad at all. Very, very grateful thanks to Mark, you're a star mate! (Turns out, BB was a VP one and a 73mm, which explains why the non drive side was stuck out a fair bit. Metal cup too)

Not sure at all now what to do with this frame, as the rarity of the colour makes me want to refrain from a respray, but then again, it's now an ideal candidate. Or I could just whack some primer on there and build it up... :facepalm:

Swapped the 'dale for a pristine pair of P2's so that solved that problem, and they could go on the Cindy as is, even if the frame gets a respray, they are that good.

Frame weight bare now BB is out, 4lbs 7ozs. Pretty much spot on I would say....
