doing an ebay search for campagnolo c record parts always gives me a good laugh - i saw a rear mech the other day for sale in the usa - the clown was asking over £400 for it!!!! i emailed him and asked if he had "anything dearer for sale"?

Crazy. I remember BITD seeing this gruppo in a blue velvet wooden case type thing. The price back then was stupid too, and no racer would dream of putting it on their bike. I really ask myself what type of person buys into this anniversary nonsense.

Let's face it, the people who go for the 50th anniversary gruppo are people who put a great deal of emphasis on appearance, because the anniversary gruppo is nothing more than a gussied-up Super Record gruppo. In such a situation nothing could be worse than having a gruppo that is missing the dust caps, or worse yet a worn 50th anniversary gruppo.

I can therefore understand why somebody would be willing to pay very good money to get what might be the only part still missing to have a complete gruppo. Over-paying on a dust cap is certainly cheaper than buying a complete gruppo.

I did come across a chap over here who had used his 50th Anniversary
groupset, and was trying to sell it. He was pretty bummed when he saw
the prices the NOS ones were getting. I think he only got about €600
for it in the end.
