whats with this i-drive crank thingy ? never seen one up close but i'm quite intrested in how it works now after seeing pic's on ebay , anyone ??? :D

The I-drive looks more complicated than it is. It is basically a way of keeping the chain length the same throughout the travel to eliminate the loss of pedalling efficiency that plagued many early full bouncers. It works by placing the bottom bracket inside an eccentric shell, that in turn runs on bearings within the frame. The eccentric is then attached via a small bar or "dog bone" to the rear triangle. As the back wheel moves up after hitting a bump, it pulls on the dog bone which in turn pulls the BB towards the back wheel, thus maintaing the distance between the two and keeping the chain length constant.

I hope that makes sense! I loved the two I-drives I owned, but beware - the cheaper models with a coil shock were pretty bouncy and the shock let the design down. A decent air can will make the frame ride to its full potential. :)
