The screw.
I am being serious amongst all the (very amusing) nonsense.
To make at volume the screw you want, you need….a screw. So how did we get to the incredible precision of all the screws in the world. By refining and refining and refining. So there is a kind of ‘essence of screw’ which has been breathed into every screw we use. That screw which just fell under the bench or under the fridge is a wonderful thing. Can be wood, or metal, or anything….but in it, it has this wonderful legacy. Screws do exist in nature of course (spiral bacteria … horrible things) but the screw as a joiny thing…an amazing invention.

the mechanical advantage of an inclined plane, turned around a shaft. Whilst the helix exists in nature, it does not do the same thing.
I agree with this one, a good screw is a wonderful invention.
