Hub gears? Your opinions and experiences please...

Coaster rear disc front is a bad idea.

Disc implies you want to do hard braking. Coaster works fine on the flat but on extended descents you will be in trouble. "Repack" rides in the early days of MTBing were called that because they required a repack of the coaster brake grease afterwards.

You'll be putting a lot of load on your chain too and getting the wheel out for a repair becomes a nightmare.

And the fact that not being able to back pedal is a massive ball ache .

Did'nt find that too much of a problem, have a coaster/drum combo on my Bomber, but i can confirm what dbmtb says about them not being the best things to use on extended decents, mine is new so did'nt really experience fade but biggest issue is lack of rear braking over bumps (nearly stacked at Innerleathen due to this), also instinct says when cornering the outer pedal should be down but do this with a coaster brake and again you have no rear brake as the pedals need to be level.

I've retired my Klunker from Trail centres now anyway, value my life too much

I disagree with that. The worst load on a chain is when you use the smallest 22T or whatever) chainring.

As the hub gear will use the middle sized one the chain tension is lower.

It's the same as running say 44-22 compared to 22-11. Both are 2:1 ratios, but the second is running double the chain tension.
