How to check Bike history - Cougar 753 ?

Hi

I am new here, having just discovered this forum.

I have an old bike that I built up when I was a student (in 1989!). It is based on a frame that I believe to be a Cougar 753. However, I bought it second hand and after having been professionally repainted, so it doesn't bear any makers names or Reynolds badges. At the time, I had just had 2 bikes stolen, so anonymous was just what I wanted !

Anyway, my question now is how can I check the origin of this frame - is it a Cougar ? is it actually 753 tubing ? Can anyone advise ?

Many thanks.

Andy

it will be pretty hard to ID the tubing itself but there are quite a few cougar owners on here (i have 2) so if you post pics of the frame and it's detailed sections that would help.

You could always just contact Terry Dolan.
I'd imagine he's still got his Cougar order book and will no where frame numbers etc are on the frame.

Thanks for your replies :D

Any idea where I can contact Terry Dolan himself ? I think Dolan bikes are in Ormskirk, but is this where Terry is now ?

I'll also take some photos and post up.

Yes, Dolan Bikes are in Ormskirk. Don't think it's so far from where the Cougar factory was, at least in the early 90s when I visited to be measured for one of those Boardman style Micro Lo-Pros. Terry had just switched pretty much to building with Dedaiacci tubing then and took great pride in showing me his order book with names like Boardman, LeMond & Rominger in it.

If you're on Twitter, the man himself is @terrydolan1
