And make sure you don't lose the plastic ball, or you'll pe looking for balls from air guns and how to drill them with a hot needle. True story...

My Niece's necklace collection was raided for mine

I got one cheap because the wee ball was missing, raided my daughter's necklace making kit for one. Dozens of them in loads of sizes, too.

that's not a rollamajig in the top pic

that was the first thing i thought, those parts were part of the mech when it first went to that rapid rise nonsense.

That's correct, no Roll-A-Majig in the first picture, but I guess the point is that the housing is awfully aligned.

Anyway, I think Rapid Rise was a cool thing, at least as an option, not shoved down out throats, like Shimano did. When I say this I have to think about my friend who's a multiple dual/4X National Champ and used such a derailleur for a long time on his race bike. The point: you took the holeshot in an easy gear and then, using the Shimano shifter's ability to go through 3 or 4 gears at once, you switched to the main racing gear that carries your speed to the bottom.

its not actually the housing, its the cable stop on the frame

but that's an entirely different conversation

So I have a rollamajig somewhere in the 'stores' (plastic storage bins stuffed with scrap).

Firstly I thought it was broken due to the little split above the wheel in the casing (seems fine according to previous photos).

Secondly I thought I needed *two* little balls, whereas it looks like I only need one.

With this happy news, can someone tell me if it will make a noticeable difference on an XT mech with LX rapidfire shifters?

I have similar contraptions on all my retro mech, pizza cutters, cog hogs and rollamajig things, I firmly believe shifting is significantly improved by using them, and stays smoother longer. The most important thing however is that hey also come in pretty colours

Not an avid branded one at least- but it is the same part in essence and still needs to be run the same way as the avids to be effective!

Second that; as pointed out in my first reply near the beginning...

...I think Avids first, alloy, Rollamajig is the best; also handy for replacingV-brake noodles

Shimanos take on the theme came later, but works the same way.
