!!!! HOW MUCH ??

the electronic rear mech thing has been rolling on for years now, mavic started it about ten years ago with an undeniably lovely looking battery operated item......i wouldnt want to lose the adjustability and user/trail friendly cable system though.....i can imagine losing my rag with an electronic one wet through in the middle of nowhere if it started playing up!!!.....at that price too!!

Yes, I have huge problems all the time with shifters exploding and cables snapping

..just ask Bradley Wiggins about the "Increased Reliability"....

Suntour had a go before that too

I do think the time is right for this now though, with time trial bikes search for new aero advantages and with the multitude if shift positioning options I think this is here to stay this time. A better gimmick than campag's 11 speed set up.

It isn't the best looking I'll admit. I would have thought they could have designed something better than the staying with the cable design derraileur. Though maybe thats the point.

Aye- I remember Suntour had a system @ 1990, and Chris Boardman used a mavic set in 1995. I dare say it's a jolly good set up, once it's reliable enough and affordable.

Who wants to be an early adopter??? eh?? :P

For $899, though, I wonder how good a mechanical hub gear could be??

If it's a Rohloff, very good indeed!
I'd never thought I'd see something that made Rohloffs look cheap though!

Bearing in mind this is the price for the rear mech ONLY. You'll also need the "shifters", front mech, cables and battery.

I think that the whole set will run you about £7-800-ish here in the UK!

And it'll probably still short out when it gets wet. Not to mention that your bike will become a single speed when the battery runs out on that 80 mile weekend ride.
