How much does it cost to post a bike?

Thanks to you all for the info.

Managed to get a bike box, the biggest bike box you've ever seen. went in with rear wheel attached. Took it to the PO as wasn't around at home to get a pick up delivery.

Postmaster chap just looked and shook his head in that typically British response to any potential problem, (shake your head and declare it impossible  )

after a minor rant about how you'd imagine a post office in a western civilisation* in 2011 might be able to post a parcel you were holding, 200 miles in this day and age....

Anyway, got fed up, met half way with Matt and drove it to Dartford. Easiest solution.

*questionable reference to a civilised UK society.
You have to worry about the mindset of some PO workers.

Their organisation, and by consequence, their jobs, is in clear and present danger from successive governments that think the private sector is the answer to all of that - and these days, the average, Clapham-omnibus-riding-person is all to well aware of other options.

Helpfulness Quotient of Post Office staff varies enormously I find. To be fair however if the "box" doesn't meet the max size criteria there is little that counter staff CAN do. Even if they accept it, it won't pass through the depot go/no go gauge system. With PF 48 I always used to take my own copy of the length/width/girth limits and a tape measure!

Could agree more on the PO had similar probs with them when sending a vw t2 bumper, the head shake must be a corporate training thing
Needless to say I too had the rant- hope no one video'd it for u tube

12-15 quid is good, 20-25 is top end anything over that someone is taking the Mick
