Yes, it was a Peugeot 5spd hire bike up the Julian Alps in 1989. Riding back down was fun.

I did and still do like riding technical stuff like that, them modern bikes should find it fairly easy, at least the bit in the foreground.
These modern plus sized bikes would make is easier if I had one, but 1.75&1.95 was the stuff to do it with, smoke lites would get in the gaps.
It is knackering though but beats a fireroad.

E Bike power ! Prolly just me but i find this a bit unsettling :?
Bitd mountainbiking was a proper full body workout. Upper body strength was needed to keep a bike steady against pedal forces as you lifted and wrestled the bike through rough lined terrain. You needed smooth power delivery to maintain speed over technical terrain as well as skill picking a good line. This was all massively helped by a decent bike properly set up of course. The bikes creaked a bit of course but i kinda liked it

Especially one the e-bike owner has taken it beyond its legal power, which they do and seem encouraged to, they both become illegal to use on the cycle allowed way.
To be honest, they should catch them now they are becoming popular and give a license for their use and regular checkups needed, even for the cycle legal ones.
I'm not against them, they'll be great in later life and for towing my son's trike.
Once the price comes down, having kids riding them down paths and multiuser paths will be interesting otherwise.
