I also used to like riding IN a local stream/river riding along the rocky stream bed was a technical challenge, and if you had to "dab" it was instant wet feet
So there was my incentive to keep it on 2 wheels.

Its all about torque. E bikes/cars have so much of it. Imagine how something like that would chew up the rocky trail above. Its a different thread I guess and i can see the benefits of ebikes encouraging more people to ride but im a Luddite and purist

But why not just use an MX bike?
Especially one the e-bike owner has taken it beyond its legal power, which they do and seem encouraged to, they both become illegal to use on the cycle allowed way.

To be honest, they should catch them now they are becoming popular and give a license for their use and regular checkups needed, even for the cycle legal ones.

I'm not against them, they'll be great in later life and for towing my son's trike.
Once the price comes down, having kids riding them down paths and multiuser paths will be interesting otherwise.

There are two middle aged guys riding souped up leccy ATBs around the bridleways here in N Herts. You can always see the broken dirt where the power has been applied and they are clearly very heavy. Just hope they dont get us all banned from the trails in a few years when they become more affordable and popular.

I can see the big upsides to leccy bikes. More of the non typical users riding them, less cars on the roads etc. Id like to see the permittance of ‘low powered’ leccy scooters for kids on the pavement. It would be handy going to school pronto in the morning and when they are tired coming back and more fun.

Also tried riding through small rivers and over mini water falls in my yoof. Its hard work and seriously technically challenging as you say.

Just saw this on FB from back in 1985. Hitting nearly 60mph on Mt Washington :shock: using roller cams no less !

I have experienced canti brake fade on long descents in Wales and in a car on track days. Properly scary stuff !!!

I can see here in the lakes the advantage of electric bikes, they can keep the family together on the roads and cycle paths, I've even seen a cycle charge point on the usual maps.

You should report the damage to e-bike are making to your local council, walking groups etc.
Get them concerned now.

And then the police as it's a double whammy of being illegal (if not registered and taxed).

I was looking at them today, (un)fortunately # nice one is still well out my price bracket.
The good old traditional ones for commuting that have been around for decades would probably break.

I think we rode some trails similar to this earlier in the year, when I came up to the Peaks and met some of you hard men of the north!

By the way, I'm coming back in just over a week

As an aside, I wonder how eroded that trail is now. If it's anything like some of the most popuar bits of the South Downs, it will be gravel now

Snowdon was like that in the early noughties. I took it on my 1996 GT Ricochet (like a Zaskar but in 7005) wearing a full face helmet and body armour.
