How far do you go for retro?

Re:

Apologies for poor English, typed a bit quick, but I think a true retro build deserves a full retro group set and components to match the frame and forks. :D

That maybe be true unless you build a few to similar spec and can then appreciate the frame characteristics rather than gabbing that clouded by the differing components.

To me the frame is the soul of the bike, after that anything is fair game for me. As long as it looks good and rides/functions well, I'm happy.

I'm also with these guys ^

And the others who said they wanted to upgrade their old steed from its original spec. My Dyna Tech came stock with 500LX, nuff said.

I stop at the rims. Anyone building a rider that is not using decent modern rims needs to give it a go :)

Re:

Virtually 100% original for the first build (I use modern cables/housing in most cases, but keep a stash of old school brake cables in case). If the bike gets into regular rotation I'll put modern tires on. Otherwise everything down to the chain, rims, grips, seat, etc. is period correct.

My builds are always period correct, except for cables or chain if needed and sometimes tubes and BB.
For my clunker I go all the way, including 70s BMX outer cables and chain.
I got the right type Brooks, but it is from '82 and even that bothers me now...
This build has to be correct for me.
