How do you treat chain suck in a restoration?

Bike in good to VG condition except for this. How would you treat without a complete paint over?

It should be easy enough to DIY as it's white. Just mask the rest off, rust treat, clean, sand, prime, sand spry etc.

clean up the burrs (your not canadian are you ?)

either rust treat or polish back to bear metal ( )

cold galv paint then top coat , enough for a running resto its hidden anyway so it just needs protected rather than gleamed

I'd definitely sand those areas back to clean metal before touching up. I only use rust treatment on rusty bits I can't get to with sand paper.

This isn't just any chainsuck repair....

I would rub it long and slow using whichever abrasive paper were closest to hand, until sweet shiny steel stared back at me.

Then, I'd ferret around in the shed until I'd found some old lacquer in a rattle can or one of those car-chip touch-up fingers. Next, I'd swab the wound using surgical spirit or carb-cleaner and some loving care, before shooing away any residue with a quiet whisper.

Only then would I paint over the gleam with a brush I'd nicked from the kids' art box, dipped into the nice old lacquer. Cup of char and watch it all dry.

Mask off the the area the rub extends to at its furthest or if its really bad then just do the whole stay.White as ^^ says so it should be easy.

alternative super cheap method
Wrap a length of innertube around the entire stay and sucure with a zip tie[overwrap the start while stretched then continue down the stay keeping it stretched you only need one zippy and the mech end
