This has to come off.. the axle on the wheel is wobbly as flip and I'd like to sort it

Any ideas how the cassette comes off?

I've tried shifting that 'toothed' outer ring but don't think I have the right tools, not fussed whether it (cassette or ring) gets destroyed in removal..

it's a freewheel, isn't it.. don't casettes have lock rings..

need a different tool, i think the whole thing screws onto the hub..

probably wrong though..

Yup, it's a freewheel and not a cassette. You'll need the correct freewheel removal tool and a bench vice if it's a tight one. (Which they always are)

The tool fits in where the locking nut on the axle is. You normally have to remove the nut to fit the splined tool in.

and get ready for lots of small ball bearings :D

I think the bearings need replacing anyway.. the axle wobbles like Vanessa Feltz out jogging :?

P'raps a visit to the LBS to get it removed is my best option...

remove axle ..insert huge allen key and unscrew..

So.. unbolt as much as I can and stuff a big ol' hex in there - no need to undo that other gubbins?

if you already have a Shimano BB tool, these can be persuaded to fit Shimano freewheels and remove them.

Is that in a similar vein to the above?
