Crazy story indeed! So my assumption that Spooky bike have such a badass attitude is confirmed!Back in 99 I was riding purely dirt/street which was killing all the normal components. My 98 Zaskar was tricked out with Z1s , Hope brakes , D321 , Hope hubs etc but there was always something breaking. I needed a dedicated dirt bike with the associated parts but there wasn’t much choice at this point.
My friend was a bit of a forward thinker and set up an internet based bike shop from home. At the time I didn’t really get the whole Www thing (I was 15) but he said it was gonna be big.
Obviously starting from nothing his business model was effectively waiting for an order to come in , and then ordering it himself from distributors. Non of this next day delivery.
I was pretty ok on a bike so he asked me to wear his logo on T-shirts while out riding , and in exchange I could have a cost price deal on a frame and build kit. Deal.
A few days later he said he’s set up an account with this little known company called spooky and what did I think to the Metalhead or bandwagon. Well I was sold obviously as it was perfect. I went with bandwagon as I wanted normal dropouts.
Anyway it took a while to come but once it arrived I promptly searched for bits which he couldn’t get. The last couple of parts were bought from NEC Bikeshow on a Saturday.
Spent all Saturday evening building the bandwagon. Sunday morning comes and I’m eager to see how it compares to my Zaskar
Anyway rather than warming up I hit the big section of doubles straight away. Second double and I clipped the front wheel on the downslope ……
Broke both arms , little finger , and thumb
Ended up doing my GCSEs with both arms in cast but still managed to get out riding a bit.
Once back on it , the spooky was abused daily until driving took over. View attachment 960104View attachment 960105View attachment 960106View attachment 960107View attachment 960108View attachment 960109View attachment 960110View attachment 960111View attachment 960112
Anyway I still own that bandwagon 26 years later.
