Hope FATSO front hub - Blue Ti-Glide Rear - Questions

I recently bought some wheels: the front has silver FATSO hub - and the rear a blue Ti-Glide Rear.

First question is.... the front hub has two small cracks on the flange, 180deg apart. Is this terminal?
Or can the flange be replaced and/or rebonded?

Second question is... how do I know if the rear is a Ti-Glide? Were they the only hubs hope did in different colours?

Thanks in advance!

Normal cassette = 'Ti Glide' hub.
Screw on freewheel = 'Screw-on' hub.

As far as the front hub is concerned, wherever the cracks are I wouldn't risk using it - one or more spokes are likely to 'pop' out and significantly weaken the wheel, or the flange could fail altogether with catastrophic results. I would be looking for money back in the case of cracks on the hub, unless they were referred to in the description.

Hi CB,
Sorry - should have been clearer - the cracks are on the inside - where the flange overlaps the central sleeve. They aren't around the spoke holes.

OK - blue hub takes a normal cassette. Which implies its a Ti-Glide.

I also have an XC rear which also takes a normal cassette - was that only done in silver?

Apologies for the dumbass questions - I'll try and get some pics taken which will help.

The cracks weren't mentioned when the wheels were advertised - but they were a bulk purchase with a load of other bits.

I though the cracks might be where you say they are - I have several hubs like this. But I wouldn't ride them - imagine those cracks causing the flange to break in two. One of those halves (or both) could separate from the titanium sleeve. You then have 25% (or 50%) of your spokes free from the hub, all adjacent on one side of the wheel. You try to turn...

Sorry for the doom and gloom, I just wouldn't risk it - those cracks will, sooner or later, cause the flange to fail.

As for your XC rear hub - do you mean the single-piece alloy hub? I'm sure I've seen other colours in those.

Fatso is almost terminal and remarkably common, I also have one. also my quite new 'suspension' is starting to do the same but i'm still riding it ;)
Might drill a small hole and glue to stop the fatso and build for commuter riding. but doubt i'll actually get around to doing so.

TiGlide do do the same as well, more susceptable are the older style with the 'edges' as opposed to the newer 'wavey' style thay had (which are also heavier)

Ti refers to I think the titanium cassette body and Glide to well the cassette action.

- They later brought out solid alu bodies a Solo ?(I don't know these, stell cassette body)
-Mono and XC (same, but XC has the bolt holes for disc) rear could have steel or Ti cassette body. They replaced the Ti-glide and it's front counterparts the Fatso, Suspension and Lightweight)
-Some other one's for specialist purposes... big'un .. ?
- Hope Pro II & Hope Pro III (ProII = disc, ProIII came out later on and is none disc) replaced the XC and Mono

ALL came/come in a multitude of colours

Ti-glide/Fatso/Suspension/Lightweight (and and earlier hope hub, and roadie superlightweight) have a Ti sleeve between the alu flanges.

Cheers FC for the timeline - the silver rear I have is a Mono then, not an XC, as it is non-disk.

That's only my very rough take on the timeline. I'm sure somebody will fill in details and correct it. Couldn't even tell you the years.
I only remember Ti-Glides and the FatSo being new and lack of things cracking on them. The rest is what I've picked up this year trying to find out what my 'new' black hubs are (mono's with Ti freehub) Best part is the mono rear is the same apart from the shell as the ti-glide, not pulled the mono front apart yet.

HOPE also afaik sold under another brand name Union or something like that ?

Finally took a pic of the rear - which I'm now confident is a Ti-Glide

I had a flange fail on a Ti-glide back in 1990's after six months use. I sent it back to hope and they replaced the offending flange with a replacement that had somewhat more meat in the flange between the drilling and OD of the flange.

I'd retire any hub with death cracks. Chewing tarmac costs a lot in dentist bills.
