Homemade campag aero hood plugs

I've been missing one of the little plugs for my chorus brake levers for some time now.

Like these:

(There's a set on ebay for ~£17. Item No. 111517037532)
So instead of shelling out for some, my old man and I made one from Milliput.
In case anyone is interested here's how it came out.

Just a small blob on the end of a nail. Then when it set, used a small file to 'lathe' it on a bench drill.

A blob of light grey modelling paint on the top and voilà:
It looks better than the original as there is no cast lines.

If anyone else needs a set let me know. Depending on what they are worth to people I could make more.
Either way I thought it was something a bit different to share!

wicked, has anyone found some good alternative cover plugs which go into the top of some quill stems?like little grommet thingys.
what is milliput ?

Re:

Brilliant! Love this, it's so annoying how people take the p*ss on ebay with those kinds of tiny, fiddly parts that are difficult to substitute.

Milliput is a two-part modelling putty. I know that from my nerdy model building days, before I found a proper hobby :D

Cheers guys.

oonaf- you could try with this milliput stuff.
Only thing is it sets hard, so it might not hold itself in a stem bolt hole.
Can you post a photo of the sort you mean?

It worked fine in this case since of course the hoods are rubber.

hi carr, no hard would nt be good most of them are rubber.i reckon blue tack
and perhaps those caps that they use to cover screw holes in chipboard
furniture[sniff around the local rubbish tip] or look at electrical grommets.

thanks kevin.

You can buy blank rubber grommets in most sizes & colours have a Google

Great idea!

You can get rubber blanking grommets which have a arrow head underside which holds solid in allen key head bolts.
