One of the great mysteries of the modern age.
I thought there may have been a mudguard themed joke in there.
I use them and I use them with pride, I value my comfort more than the opinions of strangers.

Do those crud catchers actually work?

Will have to try one.

Think I had mud guards once, seems like a good idea now.

Dont see to many on the "Bike of the month"

Maybe :D there should be a full weather bike of the month, e.g. mud guards crud......

I ride on the same tracks as thousands of horse riders and don't want their crap in my eye, a crud catcher prevents this.
If I was entering BOTM i'd strip my frame of all that  .

Seems to me we're split into two distinct camps.

1) Older, more mature. Have mortgage. Can afford car insurance - even for fast cars :)

2) Kiddie. Live with mum and dad. Can just about insure the Micra if we don't get too many Dominos deliveries.

1) We don't care what 2) think

Really though, a full on MTB really does look soo much better without big plastic mudguards. I'm just too old to put up with a wet bum on the way to work :D

i've fitted a full set of cruds to the clockwork as it being used as an occasional commuter.

I'm partial to a front crud regardless of weather, the reduced risk of mud / gravel getting kicked up towards my face is a bonus to me and the rear crud, although an ugly bit of kit is a fair compromise for keeping your back dry & warmer.

as for off road - I don't like valeting my car so they are staying on until the ground dries up again in march / april!
