depending on room size your average 60w per channel amp & speakers will fill a room.

4 speakers would do it even better.

Its a one room pub of about 40 foot by 15 foot so four wharfedale diamond size speakers will more than do the job, mated to a Sherwood receiver (which has an output of upto 80w x 4) - it would not need any PA stuff.

And before you comment , I've done loads of parties and new year pub discos, a techno night in a country pub, all done with standard domestic hifi amps and speakers bought from car boot sales...

hmm not really just occasional use, as always messing with music and DJing, so would make some nice monitors too. Hence why looking at the smaller things that could scale with sub etc. Its more a hobby. Hey, we are on a site where shit old bits cost a fortune

I use equal lengths of Mission speaker cable with a Aura Evolution VA100 amp and Mission 760 speakers on Cyrus stands. Sounds good to me.

Ideal for bit of fun, and maybe some hire too, though not much money in that as too many just do for fun (like I would)

I just made a phonecall about the large opus rig.. and it turns out its some of the exact same kit i have used.. it used to be owned by a guy called kev allen of fearless audio based funnily enough in cornwall !! he used to do fairly large gigs... eden project... run to the sun with radio 1 etc etc..
The guy that owns this has tried to sell it loads of times and keeps pulling the e-bay auction as it doesnt reach enough money :roll:
This is old kit now and the top end work all demands funkion one... so its lost a lot of value..

It sounds like theres as much BS in PA as there is in hifi with just with different problems - you dont want an amp going pop just at the wrong moment...

I shudder to think how much power/ current is required for a large gig.

Na fair play mate... im not an audio snob... im similar to you in that ive had the privilage of using hi-end kit
But im sure the rig in the pub will be fine... like the locals will give a s*it after 20 pints !!

I can see where quality counts in PA rigs - my pre-amp has the option of switching via relays or via software.

Relays - quiet

software - 'pops' over the speakers (but at only very high volume)

It was set so DVD layer changes were quiet for the fenickety

Imagine the thumps over a 10kw PA rig... :shock:

Back to my 6w valve amplifier....
