Dragged myself forwards a few years into the 1998+ forum but despite the little Talera being still warm I have a new project  Equally as unloved cosmetically but hopefully a little more worthy of upgrading - even with those heavy-ass RSTs and a DH front wheel it weighs peanuts 8) .

I had a '98 Muni which I absolutely loved but killed it in an accident with a storm drain in the local woods. Built up DH wannabe stylee - please don't laugh (I really wanted a blue/yellow Stab) . . .

Now that I am no longer a wannabe (did my first DH race last month, against a certain Ms Atherton no less dontcha know 8) - pre-'big 6-0' bucket list ) this one will be getting a slightly more sympathetic resto. No idea where to go parts-wise - I've spotted a pair of the original Z4 Marzocchis on the 'bay but with a firm spring so may not suit me. Has LX brakes and I've always loved the industrial style original V levers so they can stay and yes, that is a Flite 8)

I'll strip it right down this week, sort out the frame first and go from there. Watch this space . . .

Re:

I decided to buy an old frame to muck about with and make me leave my other mtb alone...and then i found this site. I've only bought a few bits for the frame i bought...i find myself looking at more tat on eBay including more frames and a couple of whole bikes. Oh dear!!!
:D

I love this. I had a friend who bought one of these new when we were at university. He fitted some triple clamp forks and jumped it for ages. It eventually broke but only after about two years of massive abuse. Kona frames (even the XC ones) were built to last in those days! I look forward to seeing this built up. I'd go for a 1999 wishlist build.

Cheers!

Now stripped down and ready for retouching. Paint is not in bad shape at all but it's missing its rear mech hanger and I'm saddened to find that it's a pretty unusual design and a replacement is 20 quid

Trying to resist spending too much but I've already found a pair of blue Bombers (Z3 Lights not the original Z4s so fingers crossed for a good colour-match) and a green headset is calling me

Bars have cleaned up nicely and I have a short polished Azonic ORC stem on the way from Canada. Managed to source a near new right-hand Gripshift 600 - planning 1 x 8 with this one . . .

it's like the universe is telling you to SS it...

so, who won
Seriously, Well done for entering.

Headtube retouched and laquered and Bombers have arrived but despite what the photo says, the colour match is dire (they are far more teal-like in the metal). 50 shades of blue anyone? I guess I can forgive the mismatch though as they have that lovely 90's Bomber squish 8)

Not yet Kaz although they are plenty available on the 'bay for £22  It'd be awesome if you could take a look, thanks - this is the one . . .
