Does anyone know if only Shimano made those floating pulleys?

I don't. I buy Tacx sealed bearing pulleys and they always come with a variety of adaptors, so maybe a mix n match is doable?

In the early 90s there was a a phrase 'Butug' which freely transcribed means. 'It doesn't work but at least it isn't ugly.'.

I ran 7 speed Campagnolo Centaur thumbies & rear mech with Shimano cassette without too many issues back in 1990(?) as I couldn’t afford to buy all the bits in one go. Eventually got Centaur hubs (wanted LF, but couldn’t get hold of them) with Regina Extra freewheel and chain and the shifting wasn’t as good, but I was happy... for a bit and then I might have gone back to the BIG S...

Now I look bad at my Campag days with rose tinted glasses! If you want to hear something funny, Google “John Inverdale rose tinted”...
