Help with Marin frame numbers please!

@Muttlemun Have you got a picture of the number as that seems a little odd.

M is the Marvel factory, 3 is the year, but i would have expected a number instead of that first "A" to tell you the model.
Thanks for getting back to me. Here's two! Couldn't get the whole serial on one pic. Plus a pic of the bike - some unexpected components like that Club Roost stem.

Yes, I was confused because it doesn't follow any of the four patterns you highlight in the other thread.

It might not follow the patterns, but its pretty common. I've got examples of MA, MC, ME, MH, MJ, MK and MT numbers from confirmed Marin frames.

Yes. There are a huge number of odd anomalies throughout marins numbering "system"...i use the term "system" as a very loose term! 😂.

I can only assume it refers to batches of frames from that year...ie marvel batch j, batch k, batch g, whatever.

no disrespect, but most of the lower tier frames were very similar in construction by then, so maybe they didn't even bother identifying the model?

But saying that I've got info on some team issue frames with a second letter too.

Pity nobody at marin is now over the age of 12, so they can't remember, why they did it...believe me I've asked.

Last set of numbers i sent them, they told me several were not marin frame numbers....until I pointed out one was from my team Marin i had had since new😂

Yep, going back through this thread I've come across a few other examples. I guess at this point I already know pretty much all the information I could hope to glean from the serial anyway. I was just curious, but reassuring I'm not alone in being mystified!

LOL - unfortunately the teenagers have taken over everywhere 😁

No disrespect taken! It was a v cheap purchase I'm planning to develop my wrenching skills on before hopefully progressing to something a bit higher end. I do love the look of a 1993 Marin though, whatever tier.

Thanks!
