I'm sorry about the quality of this, but my scanner is hopeless so a photo is all I can manage. It's from Total Bike of November 1998 and I think it's an excellent advert because the look on the lad's face tells you everything you could ever need to know about why you might want one of those frames too. I can't see any disc tabs at that time.

Well I emailed DMR and this was what I received by return
Yes it does look like one of the earliest batch, euro bb with horizontal dropouts –no disc is very early, maybe 11 years old. 98 in the serial number probably is 1998… probably number 78 from the first 100 at a guess.
