Help to indentify this lightweight frame.

Retro Newbie
I got this "Frank Shaw" frame in an auction recently. It came with.. Campagnolo Seat Post, Cinelli 64-42 Bars, Shimano 600 Groupset, Suntour VX Derailleurs, Suntour 10 Speed Gears, Sunshine Quick Release Skewers, Italia T.I Saddle, Wolber Mixte B Super Champion Rims, Weinmann 750 centre-pull Brakes.

But I have no idea who made the frame and when! Frank Shaw seems to throw up no real answers after 15 pages of google and I'm at my wits end.

The serial number on the BB reads 7GU177T1 (The 1's could be I's)
Some photo's here.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/70218128@N08/

Any help would make my day.

Thanks,
Chris.

Looks like a frame bought from a builder by a shop and decalad up in their name and built up. Went on a lot in my days (70's).....

Wasn't there a Shaw's Cycles in Oldham ??

Shaun

I can't see the 'photos here at work but could the bottom bracket stamping be a postcode - GU17 7TL?

Frank Shaw is not a name I've ever come across as a bike shop or frame builder.

Mark.

The stamping looks to crude to be a frame number, more like the butchery job a copper would do. GU is Guildford so a long way from Oldham in that case. I've never heard of Frank Shaw either. Looking at cabling, clearances etc. frame could be a 60's/early 70's build with later components?

Hi there

I know that this is an old post. But I can shed some light on Mr Shaw

Frank had a bike shop in Mitchett Surrey. This years tour of Britain when right past where he used to have his shop.
.
Really nice chap. Would do anything for a keen cyclist. Had my fist pair of proper road wheels built by old Frank. I was 17 at the time (1982).

If my memory serves me correctly he was a keep racer in his younger days. The number on the bottom is a Guildford area post code.

Well then there you go.
