Help needed - Rounded allen/hex crank bolt

After removing the plasic collar you could try tapping it round using a very sharp cold chisel.

Should be easy as there shouldn't be any tension in the bolt.

But what do I know

Jim

1st - Trim your allen key down a little with an angle grinder or hack saw (clean the swarf of after wards) as a worn allen key/hex head was probably the reason why it got rounded off in the first pace! Or you can try a Star bit if you have any . . . .

2nd - Try the next size up in imperial, it may fit with a bash! . . . .

3rd - Dont be scared of drilling it out, im an aircraft technician and we drill bolts out of aircraft all the time with windydrills, just keep it centre and horizontal, drill the hole just ever so sleightly smaller then the shank of the bolt, bash off the head using a small chisel or old screw driver then use your extractor to remove the crank! if you cant remove the bolt with a set of molies/or screw extracor, then file 2 flats on it and get the BIGGEST adjustable you have on it - if it still fails then your never gonna get it out, give up and replace the BB for the cost of one! :D

Good luck Chap!

Thanks for the info, im not too fussed about knackering the crank and bb, so will attack it tomorrow

Yeah. these are all fine and dandy but this guys got a bolt that comes with a round head and a female 8mm allen hole in it. Explain to me how the hell these would work for that? They might work fine for a 14 or 15mm hex head crank bolt but they won;t work for what Matt has.
