I have a Yamaha DSP AX640 home theatre amp that goes in to standby as soon as it is switch on. It makes a normal click on power up and I have disconnected everything attached to it but it still happens. I think it may go in to self protection mode as I have accessed the mode and it stays on.

Has anyone experienced something similiar with their HT amp or like?

I have googled the problem and it seems that this is problem may be something to do with an output capacitor or transistor on the power PCB, but I do not know for sure if this is the reason.

I am keen to give the repair a go myself as I have downloaded the service manual and identified the power PCB.

Any thoughts or ideas to getting the repair done by a qualified electronics electrician?

Can anyone recommend such an expert in the Essex area?

Thanks in advance for advice.

No expert on this sort of stuff, but mu mate had a DVD player repaired by RicherSounds and they did a stand up job of it. Might be worth sending it in to them?

Sort of similar, my old JVC amp was switching on and off by itself yesterday but the power light wasn't going out. Took the cover off and carefully hoovered 17 years worth of dust and crap and it's working fine again.

Prob not much help but still... :)
