New acquisition. I'm not very au fait with Cannondale so can someone give me a rough idea of vintage and model no please?

The seatstay U brake suggests about 1990 to me but happy to be corrected.

A bit of an odd one that, but not unusually so for Cannondale, in that it doesn't fit any of the catalogue models in that guise but frames were always available separately and warranty replacements weren't uncommon. 1990 was the first year of the aluminium fork and also the first year of the cantilevered dropouts on mtb frames, from memory. The only 1990 model with a u-brake was the Red Shred but as mentioned before that doesn't mean too much. The serial number will reveal all but I agree with you, that it's a 1990 frame

Thanks, I'll do a bit of digging around the old catalogue archive. Red Shred sounds suitably arse about face seeing as it's blue.

Serial number will be under one of the stays 👍

It's a bit difficult to read but I think it's
53007904941

The second digit looks like a 2 to me, which would indicate:

5 = 135mm dropout spacing
20 = 20" frame
0790 = July 1990 production date
941 = production number

On second inspection I think it's

52007904941

5 = rear dropout spacing
20 = frame size
0790 = production date
4941 = sequence number

Which sounds about right - 1990 bike.
