Was sold this frame back in the day as being a stumpy team from memory - i.e. a prestige built one. It had been resprayed already.

The serial is 90L2522

Having done a little research my thoughts are that it's probably the vanilla stumpjumper from 1992.

The 1990 serials I have found seem to be in a different format. The 1991 serials are similar and I know specialized normally strat the model years early (i.e. build 1991 bikes in 1990).

Also looking at the cable guides on the 1991 range the prestige frames (comp and team) have the cable guides on the other side of the top tube.

Anyone care to backup or refute my reasoning.

Currently getting sprayed up. Need to decide on decals and ultimately what to do with it....

1992 team, which used to be mounted with an xc pro microdrive gruppo
I had a pink 1992 comp

Specialized 1991 were dark blue (team), matt grey (comp) and white (normal stumpy, but built with tange mtb tubing instead of the prestige of the pro and comp)

At least, in Italy, I don't know if things were diffferent for different markets, but I don't think so)

Opportunity Knocks

I believe there be a rapscallion trying to offload some XC Pro stuff on the 'Bay right now - why not make him a larfable offer... ;-)

Mr K

1991 team was built with xc pro , and purple/black in colour with dark yellow stickers .

1991 comp , was xt and grey

1991 normal stumpjumper , was black ,red decals and DX.

1992 comp was pink ( Gus one ) .

the white one was 1990 and was equipped XT ( including U brake ) .

Hmm. Going from the catalogues in the archive some of the colours differ slightly.

Regardless I know it's been resprayed. I'm getting it redone in black.
Just would be good to know what it actually, sure there will be differences between the prestige and non=prestige frames.

Hi John,

Sitting here with Spec's '89 - 93 cats in front of me... (a few of these are in the 'Found 'em' topic) - I had an '89 Stumpy, a '92 Future Shock and a '92 Comp - cannot remember all the differences though...

The '90 Spec had a braze on for rack each side of the seat tube below the canti' hanger so not that year. Top tube sent to 31.8mm that year...

I'll keep looking at the pics.

Scan of '92 here:

Max,

nice one!

The scans are in the archive but the resolution isn't quite up to IDing frame details...

No, true - same thing with them all in front of me - the old '89 is the best with lots of close-ups. The '92 Comp was a brilliant bike - I loved mine but it chainsucked really bad on the first ride...

BTW - if you check those scans the Comp has those rack braze ons while the standard Stumpy doesn't - very odd - must have been pre-production shots.

No U brake here, if think they binned that in 88.
