Help me choose; singlespeed content.

Singlespeeds have to be steel. It's the law!

Thankfully I'm from Scotland where we have some different laws and the one about steel single speeds does not apply........what nonsense
Why lug extra weight and energy sapping flex around with only one gear purely for aesthetics.
Mind you the Bonty will be good in this role as you do seem to prefer the Klein as is

I have an Ally SS and a steel one. Both are equally brilliant.
I don't care which you SS but you have two MTB's one should be a SS.

I have three MTB's, two are SS thats a better ratio. Infact out of the 5 bikes I have, 3 are SS.

My wife has tried objecting to the number of bikes I have and once even tired tired objecting to having one in the house. My answer to those objections was to buy more bikes so I had to keep one in the house due to lack of space in the shed. We are still married.

So the answer to your wife's bike limit is buy more bikes.

After a fair bit of mulling and pondering I have taken the plunge and stripped all but one gear from the Bonty. Took it for a spin this eve and really enjoyed it. I've decided it will stay singlespeed, and be ridden through the winter while I hoard parts to return the Klein to a more period correct spec.
As long as a Pace frame in a big size at the right price doesn't come along, I'll be happy with the 2 like that....

I have the very same Bonty as a single speed. A pair of P2s on the front, Rolf wheels and some Maguras. It's really light and pretty lovely to ride. I'd hankered after the frame for years and when I finally got one the cable stops had been butchered so singlespeed it was. If I'm honest it might be abit big for my stumpy legs too. I can sih it out for a couple of photos tomorrow if you're interested?

WHY for the umpteenth time do single speeds have to be steel.
Everyone says it like its fact.
Then you say skinny tubes just look right for an SS but that makes no more sense.
Why not just say you think the Bontrager of the two choices available in this thread should be the SS other than these so far unjustified sweeping statements about SS in general

Sorry, been at work far too long, I'm getting grumpy.......

For me , I prefer the ride of steel over what feels like less responsive aluminium.I prefer the look of the Klein and hence my reply, really don't think it was an unjustified statement

I had not noticed!

It's a tongue in cheek 'law'. As with anything bike related it is, of course, up to the rider as to what he or she wants to ride. But there's something about the feel of a steel singlespeed that makes more sense to a lot of us. I've tried both over the course of the last 16 years of riding SS, and steel wins it by a long way for me.

And it looks better, invariably. To me, natch.
