Help, it's stuck (no seatpost content, I promise!)

Ok, so I got my new acquisition home today, and began some disassembly, and made absolutely ZERO progress on the fork. I got the top cap off (of the ahead style headset), and the stem, but the spacers seem fused onto the steerer tube of this GT fork.

I've rapped with a hammer, and also (while the fork legs were immobilized), tried turning the spacers while gripping with vise grips, but they are fused tight. I can't see any oxidization or rust, but the steerer that is showing has some surface bubbles in the finish, I fear that it's done this under the spacers and is now pressed firmly on them.

Anyone experience this before? I recon I'll be getting out the PB-Blaster and dousing it well, but other than that, I have few ideas. Perhaps I could dremel them off , I couldn't care less about this fork..

i had the same problem!! I didnt car about the forks either

get a flat blade screwdriver and put it on the spacer so it is parallel to the steerer. Smack it on the top with a mallet (or small sledge) and it should loosen that one side. Then repeat around until its loose

or just dremel the bugger off

I hope the GT fans on here aren't too taken with the fork, I posted it in the "What is my piece of #$%! GT fork worth" forum..

:)

Thanks for the advice!

I always found that if you raise the stem a couple of mm and douse the steerer/spacers in wd40 then apply the front brake and rock the forks back and forth by sitting on the bike and pushing and pulling the bars back and forth then it should loosen everything up a bit. Or as you say, dremel the f*ckers.

that sounds like it would work.............but there isnt anything more satisfying than hitting something with a large hammer!!

if you've stripped most everything off the bike and it's only frame and fork left, perhaps you can grab hold of the frame and turn it upside down and smack the steerer of the fork on the ground?

or your finger and swear swear swear!!!!

nice frame though - hope you get the forks out

bloody gt rubbish

Off topic I know, but I have to ask, in the picture, wtf is going on with those cantis, are you going for stud flex ?
