Help identifying this frame

Hi all,

I'm wondering if you can help me identify this frame which has been painted to look like a bianchi... sadly.

Its original colour seems to be metallic red, it has lovely lugs and a unique looking seat stay, seat clamp junction.

The dropouts are stamped with BREV CAMPAGNOLO vertical and seem to be the 1010/1 type http://campagnolo.wikispaces.com/Dropouts

The numbers 1617 seem to be stamped into the bottom bracket and it has 3x cable guides along the top tube with mudguard eyelets.

Any help great fully appreciated.

Looks like late 70's early 80's with the type of braze on's it has... the rear brake bridge is nice, looks like it's for an allen key fitting but with a nut and bolt. Nice fastback stays as well.

You might never find the original builder but a nice frame all the same. What's the seat post size ?

It'll be a shame if I can't find the maker as I want to restore it with original decals etc.

The seat post seams to be 25.4mm (1 inch)

The paintwork looks like a shabby quick over spray and were you've scrapped the paint off its green
so maybe at a long shot it might still have its original decals under the Bianchi name/paint, alot of old bikes
had water slide transfers so you never know with some careful removal of the paint the name 'might' be there.

Been thinking

Looking at those lugs they look quite fancy for the rest of the frame, by that time most lugs had become quite plain as everyone went for lightness and lugs became secondary... Prugnat had a few designs which had some character particularly the way the lugs cut back.

I have had a quick go0gle and their model 62 / s looks a likely candidate..

The front edges of the lugs look the same, but the longer tube edge is alot longer. I'll take some photos.

Right, I've done some more investigating...

It seems that the head tube panel, was gold and it has a large band of gold on the seat tube. There is some remanence of blue transfers on parts of the gold and on the fork.

The red is a darkish metallic red which is the first colour the bike was.

Dimensions wise it is as follows:

22" Seat tube (centre of BB to top of top tube)
22" Top tube (centre of headtube to centre of seat post)

Looking at the relatively short frame number I wondered if it could be a Harry Quinn? Without the Q? http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Britis ... gistry.htm

Looked again at the new pics...........the quite dainty lugs and seat cluster might make it a Mercian? I'll have a look at some examples and check the frame numbers later.

Not unless Mercian built it during World War 1..... if the numbering is correct
