Help identify my frame

Optimusbike

Retro Newbie
Hi!

This might be a hard one, but I need help identifying this frame. It was bought 1974-1975. The frame weights about 3,4kg.

Thanks !

I was working in a bike shop in 1974-5 and nothing like that came through the doors that I remember..

It's either a lot older, a cheap import or an overseas frame IMHO

Strange.........

The frame (and bike around it) cost about 1000mk (finnish markka) in -74. Should equal about 1000euros nowadays.

There were guesses that the frame is peugeot or crescent but crescent was ruled out and peugeot was a hunch.

It cant be much older than -74 either.

I've tried finnish forums and few others but no one seems to know the manifacturer.

Just an opinion, but I enquired about a mystery frame some time ago. An some one commented that the chainstay and seatstay bridges (which were similar to this frame, plain flat plate) showed it to be a cheap import frame.

I guess that is what I have to go with then. An unknown cheap import :)

Well that doesn't change the fact that I'm going to finish this bike. Since this is my first project, It really matter if the frame is a cheap import. We'll see what comes out of this. Wish me luck.

And thanks!!

Good luck with your project! :)
I'm sure you'll have fun playing with it & riding it, enjoy! Post some pics when you're done.

Are you basing the Peugeot or Crescent connection on the remains of the chequer-board decals? They were common on those brands. However, if it is one of these brands, then it is not a top-end frame at all. The flat bridges and the flattened fork ends show it to be a budget one. I must admit that a 1000euros for such a bike seems very high for today never mind in '74.

The plate for a kickstand and the horrible fork ends (no dropouts just squeezed flat tubing) mark it out to be a cheap utility frame. The fact that it weighs 3.4kg also back up that view.

Have fun, but don't spend a fortune on the paint job!
