So let me get this right, you've got 'expensive' XTR shifters but you won't spend a fiver to keep them working how they should?
Stop being so tight and spend the money

Its not just me that thought this then!

I object to paying over the odds - and in this case £ 1 seems outrageous for this part, if it they were made from gold plated carbon fibre, I would not whinge so much.

They must cost, what, all of 3 pence to make?

Probably but then there are not many left, they have limited use and spare parts always cost more than they are worth.

not many of what left? these plugs have been used across the range of shimano shifters from LX to XTR (and maybe lower G/S) for ooh, 10 years or more. there is millions of 'em.

know what you mean about price of spare parts, don't veen start me on the cost of £ 1 for a shimano brakeaway pin when a full chain costs £ 8.

They're all over the trail and garage floors or under decking.
Very few on the shifters themselves ;)
Even worse when it's the the rubbery plastic push in caps on the older setup.

Only ever seen them on late 90's XT and XTR shifters myself. (not seen early 00's stuff) (that under the M570 number on SJS ? )

I was going to suggest try bic pen ends, like you can in other parts of the bike.
Seems they fit seeing the post above.
Pick a colour :)

Ride to the Local Bike Store and ask them ?

(£4.19 for 2 delivered at UKBikestore)

hmmmmm ... when I was googling for them, the internet said they were used in all shimano shifters for over 10 years, guess you can't believe all you read on t'net.

They probably where, I don't know much past 1995 and my limit knowledge on late 90's is all I know. Just saying they always seem to be missing
Like I said I've only seen them on the XTR and XT (M750), but that ID code is an LX shifter (the gold one ?) mega9 stuff ?

So you buying them, using a bodge or going to buy another set of shifter with the hope they have them in.

EDIT
Had to go look, the last but one XT/SLX/Deore still used them
http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techd ... 646706.pdf
So check you LBS for knackered shifters, if nobody comes up trumps here.
I'm riding with mine missing.

Go down the local plumbing shop and ask for some very small rubber bungs or put a few rounds of ptfe tape around the end stop of a bic pen and pop it in
