HELP HELP! For my Pace RC100 Rebuild

Hi all

My build is in the bike shop but I have two problems I need to over come to progress!

First and most important is understanding the bottom bracket install on a RC100. I understand is a 'push fit' type which are not available. Please can anyone help in locating such or helping with a suggestion to over come???? All I have is the Bullseye cranks and spindle?

Second is I have an early RC100 frame where the front mech was held around the square tube by a metal band. Does anyone know where I could locate one or get one made in the North West cos guess I need to take the frame to be measured?

Any help would be greatly appreciated to get this build finished!!!

Can't help with the mech. Just keep looking on here and eBay.

Crank isn't a problem. You need to get to a machine shop and have them turn down the spindle a fraction. You will then be able to use off the shelf bearings. These bearings are also now available in ceramic.

Do a search for my own RC100 rebuild from a few years back as there is a little more info on what you need to do.

For the mech; you'll need to find a shimano xt with a band (think it's a 1" 1/4) and bend it into shape, that's what Pace did!

Check this out for the BB ( i gave a set to Pete_MMC not sure if he used them)

Also here's Dr S post on MTBR

I don't think the shims will work on an RC100. They are to convert to external bearings. As the BB shell is already 100mm wide on an RC100, adding external bearing cups will mean the cranks no longer fit as the axle isn't long enough. The only solution I could see when rebuilding my own bike was to take .10mm off the axle to fit standard size bearings.

As Si says. It is a task I need to get done on a couple of my RC100s

Also get it out of the bike shop, unless they are really good they will have no idea how to care for it.

Hi Si

Thanks for that. Can you tell me how / where you got your axle reduced? Did you do it yourself or a company? Its that i'm based in Manchester so take a trip to the location to get the job done? Can you do it if I post and cover your costs?

Also I have the round metal band that fits the front mech but it is too small diameter wise to bend/shape but guessing I could get one made at a fabricators.

Thanks for all your help.

This is the kind of front mech you're looking for, this came off an early Fisher and will be needed for my RC100 I'm afraid

Any help

Sjscycles have a bunch of bandless mechs, not sure if they will have the right combination of size and pull though.

Thinking about it, would toons idea of using those desperado shims ( or Gil_m's far superior ones) enable a wider choice of possibilities as you'd then only be looking for a metric ID and OD rather than a metric OD and imperial ID bearing?

Cheers for that gil_m

I have that exact Mech and band so the mech isn't the problem its the band which is round for one and diameter wise wont fit around the square tube. So either needle in a hay stack find a band off an original RC100 or get one made..........so does anyone know where I can get one made???
