Just got my hands on a Parkpre Alumax for only £20. the frame is in pretty good condition but it doesnt seem to have that shine you want on a nice frame. The aluminium seems a bit weathered? is it just a case of polishing it up or is it some sort of paint that has been weathered than needs removing? please excuse my lack of knowledge!

Thanks!

If it is a silver frame (unpainted), you want a bottle/tube/whatever size of autosol, a good cloth and a spare weekend. Polish her up and let her shine! It may have a clear laquer on it that could make a peeling effect when wearing off. If its painted, you could do a gentle T-Cut and polish/wax, but get a picture up and let us all have a look! It will help people advise better.

Plus we all bloody love a good picture of a bike

(EDIT: google searches show all Alumax frames as unpainted, so its either a laquer wearing off or the polish it just tired. Still get a photo up though!)

The frame will be lacquered. Best to remove it using a paint remover like Nitromors and then get polishing. You can either get it re-lacquered or leave it nude but make sure you protect your hard work with a good quality car polish.

See my 1994 Parkpre Pro Image in my signature for the kind of results you can get with alot of patience and elbow grease.
