Help about M952 BBs

Hey guys,
I'm hoping you can help me here.. I'm replacing the crankset on my '99 XLM with a 952 set. The frame's BB shell width is 68mm and the recommended spindle length on the spec sheet is 112.5mm.

Question:
Are these BBs usable with either 73mm (with spacers) and 68mm (without spacers) BB shells?

If the above is true:
Will I be able to use a 116mm spindle even if my frame is designed for a 112.5mm? Will the difference of 1.75mm/side be a problem, or am I going to have issues with the chainline?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can use a 73mm shell BB with spacers, but depending on the type of BB this may not work. I've jsut used a 109mm wide version of these on my marin Mt Vision to mount M950 cranks with no crank clearnace issues.

The width difference will only cause a problem if your front mech can't move far enough inwards because the seat tube / front mech stub is in the way.

BB-M950/952 are used like modenr HollowTEch bottom brackets.

They are for a 73mm shell and you spacer them to 68 and or e-type mechs

Thanks for that. So it'll fit.

Now, as for the spindle length. Will the 3.5mm difference be a problem? Will the difference be 1.75mm even on each side? I'm thinking as long as I adjust my FD low point, it should be fine, right?

But then again, there must be a good reason why would Shimano offers them in 112.5 and 116.
