The shop that I worked in sold thousands of Manitoba-built Sekine bikes back in the 70's. The Canadian production of this Japanese company was set up to get around the high import duties then in effect. There were also production facilities for Raleigh, Peugeot and perhaps others, but the Sekine was definitely the best of the bunch. A subsequent drop of duty rates allowed other Japanese bikes compete with bikes imported directly from teh Far East.
