HED Carbon Rims Identification – XC or Downhill?

Zepreeme cycle

Dirt Disciple
Hello

I recently picked up these HED carbon fiber rims in 32h. They're in excellent condition – and believe it or not, the brake tracks are completely unused, as the wheelset was run with disc brakes.
Only the HED logo stickers reimain unfortunately. How can I tell whether these are the Cross Country or Downhill version? Any distinguishing features or specs I should look for?
These ones don’t seem to have the foam cores to prevent dirt and moisture from getting inside, so I’m guessing they might be an earlier version?
Thanks in advance!

hmm not referring to HED in particular, just general carbon fiber part production method related - I thought that foam cores were primarily used for production purposes, to have something to build the carbon around. And that it is only in recent years that "inflatable bladder" production technologies has become more commonplace. Hence, that could make your rims newer and the fixed core ones older. Just speculating.

I believe fairings (?) like these are produced in halves and then bonded onto the aluminum rim..not 100% sure though.

I recall I read somwehere that there was issues with dirt and water getting trapped inside the fairing, and that they then started to add foam. Can't recall where unfortunately.

That makes sense, good to know!
It should be easily seen if they are made in that way, the carbon would have a seam where they are joined.
Pics of that?
