How long is the offical shelf life of aluiminum anyway?

in stress terms 10 Years?.

Titanium also has a nasty habit of doing this, as I found out from that Bloody Torus :?

drilling the crack just puts a temp hold on the crack moving as the hole would flex and fail as the aluminum( :P ) work hardens over time.ever seen a pic of teeth meets stem...makes my tummy churn..

:D Who was it that got that lovely Sarcen Killiracer repaired.

So it can be done.

lol when I was @ teen my dad welded a XT Rear mech that snapped yes snapped!.

The repair lasted all of a day :)

Repairing alloy is a bitch

There are photos on here/the wider web of me following a hard faceplant onto the pavement. Taking the dental work alone into account, it would be financially beneficial to retire the frame / getting it repaired over just riding it.

When I impacted the ground I smashed 3 teeth (1 at the gum line), there was a 3ft long white score mark on the pavement... all that was left of my tooth!

I swore I'd never go near retro alu again after my Syncros post failed on it's first ride. Have now swapped my alu framed retro for steel.

Saying that, I've just bought a really light retro alu bar.

Nice jerky ....nice......

pics of crack..s..below...

Now I know why I prefer carbon......
