headsets

Another daft question so forgive me...

I need a new headset and I'm not really very clear what I need. it's for a claud butler corridore and I've got as far as a 1 inch threaded headset.
TDC headsets seem the thing (from classic lighweights) or campag gran sport (or possibly stronglight?). This raises a couple of questions
the campag states italian thread so I am assuming that this is different from British thread?

Can I get the thingy (don't know the correct term) for the bit that holds the front brake cable and goes on the headset. Does it come with the headset or is that seperate?

thanks for all the help...

The only difference between English (ISO) and Italian threads on a headset is the angle of the thread - 60 vs 55 degrees - to all intents and purposes they are interchangeable.
Assuming you mean a front brake cable hanger that fits under the locknut? These come separately.

If you do try to track down a TDC one, one thing worth checking is what diameter its crown race is. I have an old TDC Continental 'S' type and its race is for the metric size of roughly 27.0mm. Not sure if that was standard? But I have been told it wasn't uncommon for Classic British Lightweight frames to use this size. I presume the 'Corridore' is a later model Claud Butler, 1960s?, so likely to have a 26.4mm race?

I have also been told you can shim from 26.4 to 27.0 anyway. (Don't know for sure?) So maybe not an issue.

Usefully, those Tange headsets mentioned are made and available for either size of fork crown race.

I would not try to shim a 26.4 to 27.0mm when other options are available.

First measure you crown race seat diameter it will be 26.5mm (for a 26.4mm crown race) or 27.1mm (for 27.0mm cfrown race).

There are many 1" threaded headsets available new. More choice with 26.4 mm crown race.

I have M-part ones (26.4 mm and catridge bearings) and cheaper YST 1". The YST ones come with a 26.4mm or 27.0mm crown race. The better tange headsets are available in only 26.4mm. The only 27.0mm Tange headsets are the really cheap ones, after all the only bike that use these now are the really cheap ones.

The Campag and Miche one will have 26.4mm crown race. If you have a 27.0mm crown race all the headset choices are at the cheaper end of the spectrum like YST or unbranded ones. You can mill the crown race seat down to take a 26.4 mm crown race. Any LBS can do that or I can if you post the forks.

thanks for all the replies
bm0p700f do you mean the internal diameter of the race when you say measure the race seat diameter?

Thanks for all the help everyone...
