Interested in this too, what is the correct way, no grease ?, press cups in individually ?

About to trust someone with fitting the headset in my Manitou so it'd be handy to know, if he produces a mallet and block of wood i'll grab the frame and run

BTW murf, the way you have done that is probably how i would have done it, if i didn't use my usuall mallet and block of wood.

A light smear of grease is ok but you should fit 1 cup at a time to ensure it is going in straight,sure it will go down flat a the end but damage can be done to the headtube or cup if its gone in cockled.Your method is still way better than using a hammer though

That's one advantage of a proper headset press - you can fit both cups at the same time. No matter what press you use though you should always grease the cups or the headtube beforehand.
