Headset Play

Of course the 105 headset had such a shallow stack height that if you'd cut your Fork threads to fit the 105, when the headset wore out, nothing else would fit🤣

So intuitively if your frameset previously wore a different model, the threads will top out in the locknut before the headset is properly adjusted.

Of course the shop that fitted it should have spotted this - but the very fact they've given you the bike back with pay means they've missed something.
I hate to blame the LBS but it's the easiest thing to do lol. I have a rather nice used Campy somewhere 😁

Tange Levin has a similarly low stack height. I have had the same problem as @Mr Weirdo with a 105 HS and tried loose balls next. Still either play or just slightly too draggy and a 1/64th of a turn difference between these two states:eek:. I'm convinced the head tube tops need facing.

This takes a second or two to diagnose in person but hours on an internet

What era 105 headset? There were many that shared an identical design with the mtb versions so there are plenty of spares

As above,, my own issues have also been loose crown race, loose cups and wrong bearing races

Very true on all counts...It's 1980s...possibly 1050 or 1055ish? I will prob pop down to LBS with a list of the possible issues and see what one he reacts to best? Then I will suggest maybe whip it off and replace with a Campag one which I know was working perfectly as it comes off another frame...that's not to say I will ignore the other suggestions...thank you lgf 😀

I can confirm. I once bought a frame with a 105 headset fitted. Like you said , nothing else fitted as the steerer wasnt long enough and I ended up putting a different fork on a few years on

Of course if they'd waited a few millennia more they could have just given them a headset to adjust... 😁

And a few years more to make that soopadoopa software to load and work
