Headset Help

Hello everybody,

I need some help finding a headset which will fit my steerer.

after sticking the forks through the headset-less headtube I only have 25mm of steerer available on my 1 1/8" threaded Manitou 1 forks. Am I dreaming that I'll be able to find an external threaded headset which fill fit, or will it be easier to get a replacement steerer the correct length?

If replacement steerer is the best way to go can anybody point me in the right direction? I'd rather stick to threaded so that I can use my preferred quill stem.

Any advice and guidance gratefully accepted.

I think there are still separate steerers available from RST. But I am not 100% sure they will fit. But they arereally cheap, something around 8€.
Youneed to know the right diameter and the length of the "high ground" witch holds the headset cup.

There are some around 25mm stack height. Raleigh always had some low stack versions.

I have similar difficult decision.
I have a set of carbon Ballistic forks, the elastomers are shot & the steerer too short.

I could buy a 'cheap' RST steerer (£18 with postage !!), plus whatever new elastomers are.

Or I hang them on the wall and buy some decent 2nd hand Rockshox/Manitous that don't need re-engineered.

I saw on ebay somebody selling ti steerers. I think they came from Germany, but I can't find them anywhere now.
