Have you seen this?

So......is 'sheldona' on STW the same person as 'The Guide' on here?

Yep, the same chap.

Good to see some on STW taking an interest even if they don't appear to necessarily understand what they are on about! For what it's worth I think Sheldon has a good take - "not my scene but do appreciate the bikes".

Shame that we didn't have a few more retro beauties out in the Forest of Dean, the Christmas Cannock Meet 2007 and Peaks Meet 2007 probably had the best and broadest selections so far.

I find when selling and buying stuff on STW you get a lot of time wasters, or folk who will say yes we have a deal and then sell it to someone else who offers a few more ££.

Also told a forum member about this site to sell his retro stuff and said "Retrobike is for pikeys" emailed him back a few choice words

I stick to this site these days, nice and friendly 8)

STW is a good magazine though.

Rant over.....

It is a pity what it has become over there, now just filled with people who need to have the last word and who enjoy arguing the pettiest of points rather than celebrating a shared passion.

I do find their obsession with the word retro quite amusing though, it does seem to be very focused around the clothing definition of retro (ie pertaining to the past), where as we seem to focus on the far more artistic definition (ie retrospective - related to the past) but then that sums up the difference perfectly; them being a bunch of fashion addicts who change cliche at a whim, us being a bunch of people who appreciate craftsmanship and artistry in our longlasting rides.

Retro

MBUK have just thrown their hapenn'orth in too! with a classic comment in the letters section after a reader was singing the praises of his retro collection, the comment was "They really are beautiful to look at though as long as you don't have to ride them anywhere!" Pretty derogatory really chaps?

Just had a look at mlehworld, :? :?: What's on there?

Some nutters, and a lot of bike riders. Honest were (mostly) normal. Despite the surface appearance of nutters, anarchic behavior and homo-erotic comments, its the most welcoming and supporting forum I have been on - and a great sense of community. We have been given kids bikes, been a good few rides with (at the start) total strangers, eaten lots and lots of cake, and wound up a few STW'ers on the way :)

As our Tshirts say - ' Ride bikes, eat cake, talk rubbish'

Not really that derogatory is it? If we don't ride retro bikes when we go to our own meets ups, why or how can we complain about MBUK saying something like that?

We are a touch shy of 4000 members on retrobike.co.uk and I'm willing to bet that a few hundred of us are within an hours drive of the Forest of Dean but only 15 'retrobikers' turned up on Saturday, lots of them straddling 'modern' bikes and we're meant to be at the vanguard of all that's retro. If retro bikes are as good to ride as we claim, why aren't there hundreds of people at the meets all riding 'vintage' bikes?

"I know that I'm not perfect, And that I don't claim to be. So before you point your fingers, Be sure your hands are clean."... Bob Marley, the man speaks the truth.
