Have you noticed how high Campagnolo prices are on eBay?

Is it me or are prices fetched at auction very high at the moment? I'm only looking at 1970s stuff just now but I'd be happy to pay prices at the now that I'd have thought way too high before Christmas. Lots of people must be finishing their winter builds.

Shill bidding mate! always been a bad thing on ebay, I have a friend who has twenty ebay accounts
and he uses them to bid on his own items to pump up the price!

No its not you glpinxit, I have yet to figure out or understand why people pay those super inflated prices for 70/80's Campagnolo stuff, Its not like it's difficult to get hold of, its as common as muck, its some of the most very very easy parts to acquire, & shed loads of NOS as well.
There is much much rarer stuff out there that docent fetch any where near the same money.
For example SR seat posts nos I've seen going for as much as £250 & there are millions of them out there?
Yet you try & find a 23mm Roubis seat post that fits a Vitus 9 tube carbon frame at any price & in any condition (next to impossible ) Yet when they do come up for sale anything between £50 -£150.
Now IMHO if it was based on rarity value, if a SR Seat Post NOS is worth say £200 (as some stupid people think), then the Roubis 23mm Seat Post NOS would be nearer to £800.
Even some of the modern D/Ace group set parts are more difficult to get hold of NOS than S/Record.
But thats just my own opinion on the subject.
Rant over :)

Report him then ... who needs fraudsters as friends ...

I don't think shill bidding it that big a problem; it is pretty easy to spot ...

I agree , buy now on ebay with a lot of cycling stuff is horrendous compared to a jumble.
but i was amazed to see a ciocc frame recently go for a mear £170 perhaps every one thought the price would be out of their league and lost interest ? as you see lesser frames with a buy now £250-300

Re: Have you noticed how high Campagnolo prices are on eBay

I think Ebay are pretty hot on ISP addresses, not that its stops 'mates' lending a hand to run prices up. But I think the main culprit is sniping, so many auctions fly in the last 5 seconds. If someone has decided they must have a certain part and leave a high snipe, 9 out of 10 times they will win.

Re: Have you noticed how high Campagnolo prices are on eBay

I have had two recent hunts fro Campag. First for 1970's bits for a clubmans racer I will eventually build; during that exercise I did see some silly prices, especially for perceived 'rare' items or some from early / late production runs. I took my time and got a few bargains.

Just recently I have been searching for 10 speed Chorus items, and cannot believe how much more expensive they are compared to Shimano of similar age and quality. Even taking my time I have ended up paying probably a third more than I normally would.

As for sniping and last minute bids; I place 99% of my bids a matter of seconds before the auction ends, but I always have a price I won't exceed. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't, but over the years it has been the technique which has won me more items than it has lost me.

What's the problem with sniping? Set and leave. Keeps me within my budget. If it goes it goes that way.

I agree, bid high and early is my approach.
