Have I set my brakes up wrong on my Kona ??

That's not outer cable, just a thin plastic sleeve.
I had the same problem fiddled trying to get the cable centrered at the back. In the end left the collar on the side as in the pic, and fiddled with the cantis themselves to adjust.
Works fine.

Make sure the springs are in the cantilevers the correct way round and use the lowest spring guide hole in the frame for maximum tension. It looks like theres hardly any at all.

Re:

That's correct, perhaps put a bigger end cap on the outercasing, probably a 6mm one will straighten it up and make smoother to operate.

The straddle cable needs to be able to move in thestraddle hanger so I can find its best position. Then tension it all up and work the cable sin the straddle hasn't sorted itself out yet, hence looks loose.

You'll then need to balance the put to the rim using the can't I tension adjusters to get it correct, even though its pulling slightly to the side.

But that is correct.

Looks absolutely bloomin' awful to me! The dog collars on all my Konas have guided the cable around and more or less centred the straddle - it'll never feel right pulling from the side like that, horrible.

Is there space in the collar for an outer cable to locate? Looks more like it should be for Vs.

Not all did, some bulky plastic version did band I have seen some with the guides but not these.

V brake models didn't use these, they had a stop on the top tube in the usual place.

I've had Konas with bolt-on V stops that looked exactly like this, if this is 'proper' Kona should be ashamed, it's rubbish!

looks broadly correct in the photos.

Think it's just going to be a case of fiddling around with it trying to make it feel better, are all the cables etc new?
