I used paint stripper to get the lacquer off, but wish I'd have left the seat tube stickers on, as they are like rocking horse poo to find. Then I rubbed down the whole frame with scotch brite to get rid of the bits of lacquer, following that up with very fine wire wool and finally polished with Mother's Cream. The cream gives some oxidisation protection but regular applications are needed to keep the finish.
The pic below is the almost finished bike. Just got the cables and outers to fit along with the front brake bosses and XTR V-Brakes. Oh and the E3 stickers on the top tube.
I must say you frame appears to have decent chunky welds on it, which should come up nicely when polished.
I'm not going anywhere without the front mech too! :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll:

Looks lovely that. Pace forks go hand in hand with an Orange bike to me.

Does the frame number resemble anything Orangey?

Serial number is A5*4AO153

* not sure if it's a space or a faded 0

Re:

Now i've looked again, It could be almost anything with the A-pro series frame. Marin used them too.

Due to the mono stay i was tempted to imply muddy fox but they had 1.1/4" head tubes too.

Also the weight. IIRC my E3 was a silly 1543g in the same size, so, it's not an E3.

Re:

marc two tone's post has just jogged my memory. I remember a thread from a while back about Orange serial numbers, where someone had a frame with an A in the middle of the numbers. If my memory serves me correctly, the conclusion was that the frame was a pro racing frame, which was built with a different configuration from the stock frames, which could explain the 1 1/8 inch head tube and rear mech hanger (possibly). You might like to run a search through the threads and see if you can find it for reference. You may have an Orange frame after all.
My frames full serial number is A0601007921. It's a standard stock frame that was originally sold at Leisure Lakes in Chorley, or so the bike shop sticker on it said...
